Greetings!
Welcome to the November issue of Residue
News! This issue focuses on acheiving
cleanliness underneath low standoff components and
avoiding flux entrapment. As the deadline for RoHS
compliance approaches, Foresite is encountering new
reliability challenges and is providing research and
education to the industry, so watch for upcoming
issues and attend our educational events to learn
about our latest developments.
| On a Flat Note - Part 2 |
 |
|
In our last issue, we warned of entrapped flux
residues under PQFN (Power Quad Flat No-Lead)
components. This month, we highlight our
troubleshooting of this issue, and what the resulting
ionic contamination levels were after we initiated
design changes and localized steam recovery
cleaning. The photo to the left shows the PQFN
area after localized steam cleaning.

This month, Foresite's President, Terry Munson
addresses a customer question about cleaning
process effectiveness in eliminating flux residues
entrapped under low standoff components. This
customer also poses the question of whether or not
RMA fluxes have potential to attack butter coating
on boards.
