Frequently Asked Questions: Bare
Board
 |
Q. Do you bring bare boards back up to reflow temperature before
testing?
A. In some of our troubleshooting work, we run heated controls,
which are bare boards exposed to reflow processes but with no flux.
If there is a case of entrapped HASL flux or fusing fluid in the
solder mask, a heated
control will usually show it.
Q. Getting a grasp on board cleanliness: What do I need to get
started?
A. We generally suggest starting with an ion chromatography evaluation
of the bare board residue levels, perhaps as part of a correlation
study with your Omegameter to help you in determining proper control
limits.
