Greetings!
Welcome to the June issue of Residue News!

A Look at Process Monitoring |
 |
|
In order to ensure that a manufacturing line is living up
to set quality standards, Process Monitoring can be used.
Process Monitoring is for production product with stable build
schedules. Its goal is to promptly identify when a process may
be veering from the expected standard. To perform this, ion
chromatography tests are run on boards that go through the
normal production process. The results are compared to a
stated baseline performance and consulting on remedial actions
is included, if necessary.

White Residues: Are They or Aren't They? |
 |
|
We are often asked if white residues are detrimental to
product performance. This article, published in Circuits
Assembly January 2006 issue, discusses that there are a
myriad of causes for white residues . . . and encourages good
testing protocol. Because not all white residues are a
reliability risk.

Can You Identify this Problem? |
 |
|
In this photo we see heavy, no-clean flux residue that has
absorbed moisture and reacted with the active circuitry,
causing a leakage failure but forming no dendrites. This
no-clean residue shows the effect of flux residues that are
partially heat activated, causing a leakage path and poor
performance in the field - but not a hard short.

Meet Meaghan Munson!
|
|
|
|
As her name implies, Meaghan has a lot to live up to. Terry
Munson, her father, will probably never be able to retire due
to his love of solving problems and the creative outlet
Foresite's research department gives him, but he, as well as
the rest of us, like having Meaghan's bright, inquisitive mind
on the job. Meaghan began working for us in 2004 in training
to learn all the ins and outs of the services we provide our
customers. She jumped in to learn the most important points
through the reports. Meaghan is the part of the team that
enters the project information, test results, data
interpretation, and consultants' recommendations, making sure
all is accurate and you receive your reports in a timely
manner. Besides working with her dad, Meaghan loves sports.
Living in the Hoosier State full of basketball fanatics is a
good thing for her. And when the Colts won the Superbowl,
well, she was one very happy lady. |
